Getting to Playa Negra
Playa Negra is located on Costa Rica's Gold Coast (Guanacaste), approximately 30 minutes south of Tamarindo.
Fly into Liberia (LIR)
The closest international airport. Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport is approximately 1.5 hours from Playa Negra. Direct flights available from many US cities including Miami, Houston, Dallas, and New York.
Fly into San José (SJO)
Juan Santamaría International Airport is approximately 4–5 hours by car. A good option if you plan to explore other parts of Costa Rica during your trip.
Rent a Car
We strongly recommend renting a 4WD vehicle. The roads around Playa Negra are unpaved and a high-clearance vehicle makes the journey much more comfortable, especially in green season.
Private Transfer
We can arrange a private airport transfer for your group. Contact us when booking and we'll coordinate everything — door to door from the airport to the villa.
Best Times to Visit
Dry Season
December – April
The classic Costa Rica experience — sunny days, calm seas, and consistent surf. This is peak season and the most popular time to visit. Book well in advance.
Green Season
May – November
Lush, vibrant, and dramatically beautiful. Afternoon rains keep the jungle green and the waterfalls flowing. Surf swells are often at their best. Fewer tourists and lower rates.
Surf Season
Year-Round
Playa Negra is a world-class right-hand reef break that works year-round. The best swells typically arrive from April through October, with consistent smaller surf in the dry season.

Sea Turtle Watching
Playa Negra is a protected sea turtle nesting beach. Leatherback and Olive Ridley turtles nest here seasonally — a truly unforgettable experience.
Rincon de la Vieja Volcano
A spectacular national park with volcanic hot springs, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife — about 2 hours from the villa.
Howler Monkey Spotting
You'll hear them before you see them. Howler monkeys, iguanas, and exotic birds are regular visitors to the villa grounds.
Zip-lining & Canopy Tours
Several world-class zip-line operations are within an hour of the villa, offering thrilling canopy tours through the rainforest.
ATV & Horseback Tours

Tamarindo
